The Party Wall Act
The Party Wall Act is designed to protect property adjoining works to walls separating buildings and in some cases detached buildings in close proximity to building works, some works in flats is also covered by the legislation. The Act requires building owners proposing works to notify their neighbours of their intentions and to agree how the works and any subsequent remediation should be undertake.
We regularly act on behalf of building owners, owners of properties adjoining works, as well as jointly for both parties. We also act as the independent “third surveyor”.
The legislation is complex and there are rigorous time scales within which notices and responding action needed, so it is essential to call upon surveyors with specific experience in this area of property law. Our surveyors are members of the Pryamus and Thisbe Club the leading group of party wall surveyors in the UK.
